A Brief Description of Major Achievements is as Below:
1) Budgetary allocation of and its utilization: Utilization of the funds allocated to the Ministry from the period 2313-14 to 2018-19 provides a clear picture about the overall impetus of the Government on AYUSH Systems. As compared to 2013-14, the Budget utilization in 2017-18 has increased from Rs.771 Crore to Rs.1544 Crore.

EXPANSION OF ACTIVITIES
A) Health Care Activities :[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]Health care activities: The Ministry of AYUSH through its Research Councils and National Institutes also provide health care facilities to general public. Further, under the scheme of National AYUSH Mission the number of visits by patients treated with AYUSH system of medicine through government hospitals and dispensaries has risen from 14.83 crore (FY 2013-14) to 22.12. crore (FY 2017-18).[/expander_maker]
B) Increase in AYUSH educational Institutions: [expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The demand for qualified doctors can be met adequately by increasing the number of institutes imparting education iii AYUSH. In this direction, 184 new ASU&H colleges have been permitted to conduct Under-graduate and Post-graduate courses during last four years. The effort has resulted in addition of 16824 Under-graduate seats and 2258 Post-graduate seats.

D) International Co- operation: [expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The Ministry of AYUSH is also vested with the mandate of liaison with foreign countries and international bodies as regards matters relating to Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy. Pursuant to this objective, 14 country to country Memoranda of Understanding (MoU), 14 institute to institute MoU have been signed for cooperation and collaborative research activities etc. Ministry of AYUSH has also entered into collaborative agreements with the World Health Organisation (WHO). Further, 13 MoU have been signed with Universities for setting up of AYUSH chair.
Details of the activities are enlisted below:-
• 14 Country to Country MoU have been signed for Cooperation in the field of Traditional Medicine.
• 14 Institute to Institute MoU have been signed for taking up collaborative research activities with different Institutes abroad.
• 13 MoU for setting up of AYUSH Chair have been signed with Universities like University of Debrecen, Hungary, Peoples’ Friendship University, Russia etc.
• 20 AYUSH information Cells have been established in the countries like, London, Italy, Russia, Switzerland, Tanzania etc.
• Ministry of AYUSH has signed Project Collaboration Agreement with the WHO for collaborative activities in the field of Traditional Medicine.
• Ministry has also signed a Project Collaboration Agreement with the WHO for developing Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani terminology.
• Due to concerted effort of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of Switzerland has agreed for recognition of Ayurveda under special category and covered it under complementary insurance scheme of the country. Due to efforts of the Ministry, Ayurveda has got befitting position in Malaysia.
• The Ministry has devised a scheme for accreditation of Yoga gurus and institutes within the country as well as abroad. The Ministry has taken steps for accreditation of Ayurveda cburses/ institutes running abroad.
•More than 50 AYUSH scholarships have been offered to foreign students for pursuing AYUSH course in India.
• For capacity building of traditional medicine fraternity of Africa, the Ministry has conducted two AYUSH training programs.
• The Ministry has successfully organized first BIMSTEC Task Force meeting for better cooperation, promotion of traditional medicine in BIMSTEC countries. Ministry has also conducted WHO-IRCH meeting.
• Ministry of AYUSH has got observer status in Committee on Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC)
• International cooperation got a further boost during the last four years which is reflected in various initiatives of Ministry of AYUSH.[/expander_maker]
E) RESEARCH ACTIVITIES: [expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The Ministry of AYUSH has five autonomous Research Organizations, namely, Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy (CCRYN), Central Council for Research •
in Unani Medicine (CCRUM), Central Council for Research in Siddha (CCRS) and Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH). These Councils, other than conducting research activities and health care facilities, are also engaged in outreach activities in Scheduled Caste/ Tribal Areas and North Eastern areas.
These Councils have undertaken Swasthya Rakshan Programme through their institutes. Swasthya Rakshan Programme was launched by the Ministry of AYUSH in October, 2015 to
promote health and health education in villages. The main objective of the programme is to take care of the health of the people in the village and also to promote knowledge and awareness about health all around.
With a view of preventing Dengue, Chikungunya, Flu like illnesses, the Councils issued a number of notifications during the last four years on different days advising general public for effective prevention and management.
Further, CCRAS, CCRUM and CCRH have also been engaged in National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke in six districts of the country. The achievements related to research activities are as below: [/expander_maker]
F) CCRH:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The important achievements related to the Council are as below:
(a) Health care facilities: During last four years, under regular health care facilities through OPDs, the institutes registered 34,4 1,196 visits of patients. A total of 1,04,854 patients availed IPD facilities. In addition to these, under Swasthya Rakshan Programme, Homoeopathy for Healthy Child and Health camps under Scheduled Caste Special Plan, 3,69,151, 69,203 and 62,321 visits of patients were recorded respectively. Medicines amounting to Rs. 1.51 crore were utilised for these purposes.
(b) Clinical Trials: In four years, Council has completed 18 clinical trials on diseases namely, Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, Dengue fever, Cancer, Alcohol Dependence, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease, Diabetic Polyneuropathy, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia, Menopause, Lymphatic Filariasis and Urolithiasis, Cervical spondylosis. Apart from these, validation of 40 drugs, clinical verification of 16 drugs and drug standardization of 15 drugs have been undertaken.
(c) Patents: During last four years, the Council has filed application for four patents.
(d) Homoeopathy for healthy Child: In a public health programme Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) were trained in child care and usage of a kit comprising six medicines viz. Calcarea phosphoricum 6X, Ferrum phosphoricum 3X, Magnesium phosphoricum 6X, Belladonna 30, Chamomilla 30 and Podophyllum 30. More than 70,000 children are enrolled under the program.
(e) Integration of Homoeopathy in the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes. Cardiovascular Diseases & Stroke (NPCDCS) was initiated in Krishna (Andhra Pradesh) and Darjeeling (West Bengal) districts through 14 CHCs and 103 PHCs. Further similar services have been extended to two tribal districts. i.e. Sambalpur, (Odisha) and Nashik (Maharashtra). Till date 1,94,667 patients attended the OPDs at life
style clinics situated at CHC/BPHC. A total of 75,238 persons have been screened for non communicable diseases and 7640 yoga sessions have been conducted with 1,49,836 participants for practising yoga.
(f) Swasthya Rakshan Program: Under this program, community health services have been provided to 55 villages/urban areas through 11 Research Institutes. 6986 camps have been conducted and 3,92,849 people have been benefitted. The objectives of SRP are to provide homoeopathic treatment to the people in the identified villages through mobile OPDs; organizing Parikshan camps for screening of healthy population and early diagnosis of diseases on weekly basis in the identified villages; collection of demographic details of the villages; promotion of hygiene and cleanliness through health education for enabling behaviour change in people.
(g) Drug Development: Standardization Parameter for five drugs viz. Andrographi spaniculata, Tinosporacordifolia, Curcuma longa, Holarrhena antidysenterica and Terminalia arjuna has been developed and introduced in Homoeopathy. Besides these, 05 new drugs (nosodes) from different strains of Dengue virus, Plasmodium, Rota virus, E.Coli, Leishmania have been developed and safety trials are in progress which, if found efficacious, will be used for prophylactic purposes. Two drugs of chemical origin namely Azathioprinum and Cyclosporinum have been developed and introduced in Homoeopathy and their clinical verification is in progress. The medicine developed will be used by the practitioners in their practice for the benefit of general public with better clinical outcomes. In addition to above, the Council also initiated studies on drug validation in respect of 54 drugs for five diseases namely, acne, bronchial asthma, functional dyspepsia, haemorrhoids and migraine.
(h) Publications: The Council during last four years published 36 books and 61 research articles. It also published a handbook on home remedies which is very popular among general public.
(i) Conferences and Seminars: The Council arranged three conferences of international level on the occasion of World Homoeopathy day from 2016 to 2018. These conferences were attended by delegates from 23 countries. These conferences also led to cooperation with international universities/institutes, viz., Yerevan State Medical University, Armenia; College of Homoeopathy of Ontoria, Canada by way of Memoranda of Understanding (MoU).
Further another conference namely, “World Integrated Medicine forum on the regulation of Homoeopathy Medicinal Products: National and Global Strategies” was held in which 50 delegates from 25 countries participated. The Council on the occasion entered into an MoU with Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Convention of the United States (HPCUS).
(j) Initiation of Award System: In order to encourage the Homoeopathic professionals including scientists, an award scheme was initiated from the year 2017 on wards. Under this, award for best researcher, best teacher, young scientist, best research paper and life time achievement were conferred during the event conducted on the occasion of the World Homoeopathy Day.
(k) Overall impact on generation of employment and revenue: During last four years, the Council filled up 66 regular posts which were lying vacant. Further, 194 posts were filled up on contractual basis. The period also saw revenue generation increase from Rs. 4.48 lakh to Rs. 1.80 crore during last three years.[/expander_maker]
(G) CCRUM:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The important achievements related to the Council are as below:
(a) Health care facilities: During last four years, under regular health care facilities through OPDs and IPDs, a total of 26,08,668 visits of patients were registered. Medicines amounting to Rs. 3.75 crore were utilised for these purposes. In addition to above, a total of 2,83,748 patients have been screened under the NPCDCS programme by the Council in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh.
(b) Clinical Research Projects: The Council has completed a total of 36 Pharmacopoeial drugs for 22 disease conditions during last four years.
(c) Patent: The Council has obtained four patents during last four years. These patents are related to SCAR primers and kit for authentication of drugs.
(d) Research paper published: During the period, the Council has brought out 150 publications of different categories.
(e) Conferences! Seminars: An international conference on Unani Medicine was organised during 10-11 February, 2018 as a part of Unani Day Celebration. Around 400 National and International delegates from 12 countries participated in the meet. An MoU was also signed with Hamdard University of Bangladesh during the event with a view to establishing an academic chair. In addition to this, the Council also organised eight seminars /workshops.
(f) Award system: An award system to encourage researchers and scientists was also instituted and implemented during the period.
(g) Revenue and job generation: The Council has increased its revenue from Rs. 1.97 crore to Rs. 2.45 crore during last three years. It has reported to have filled up 256 posts during this period.[/expander_maker]
(H) CCRYN:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The important achievements related to the Council are as below:
a) Health care facilities: The Council through its OPDs and Weilness Centres have attended to 5,48,058 patients during last four years. Further, it conducted workshops through various Yoga organisations in the run-up to the International Day of Yoga for a duration of one month in each district of the country.
b) Research Projects: The Council has completed 9 projects on health conditions related to Diabetes, Post Stroke rehabilitation, obesity, pregnancy, child health, back pain etc.. Further, a multi-centric trial on Yoga and Diabetes was conducted under which 2,40,9 75 persons were screened from 60 districts from 28 states. This was followed by assessment and selection of subjects; intervention through integrated yoga based life style module; medical check-ups/advice and weekly follow-up and daily classes. The study shows encouraging results.
c) Conferences! Seminars: The Council has organized one international level conference on Yoga for diabetes. It has also conducted national level seminars on other topics. State level seminars have also been conducted in North Eastern States.
d) Publications: The Council has brought out a number of free and priced publications for the benefit of common man. It has also published 13 research monographs on various research conducted by the Council.
e) Central Registration of BNYS graduates: The Council is also empowered to register details of graduates holding the degree of Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences (BNYS). The same is also uploaded on its web portal.
f) Revenue and job generation: The Council during last three years has been able to increase its revenue from Rs. 46.39 crore to Rs. 174.53 crore. The Council’s effort in creating Yoga and Naturopathy Weilness Centres and workshops during International Day of Yoga in various states have led to engagement of skilled manpower through state government and other organisations in large numbers.[/expander_maker]
(I) CCRS
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The achievements related to the Council are as below:
a) Health care facilities: During last four years, a total of 5,6 7,898 visits of patients in the OPD were recorded. Further, 494 patients were treated in the IPD. Under the Swasthya Rakshan Programme a total of 21,468 people were attended to. Medicines to the tune of Rs. 2.54 crore were utilised for the purpose.
b) Research Projects: The CCRS completed 07 projects which further led to data analysis, publications of papers/books, etc.
c) Development of new drug: The Council developed a coded poly herbal formulation, i.e. D5 choornarn for type 2 diabetes mellitus. A patent has been filed after successful completion of multicentric clinical trial. As a result a specialty clinic for diabetes mellitus has also been opened at the Council’s Chennai centre.
d) Proprietary medicine: Central Council for Research in Siddha has received new manufacturing licence of 3 drugs in proprietary drugs category. These drugs are for diabetes mellitus, general debility and immunity for paediatrics.
e) Further, the Council has conducted pre-clinical trial on Nilavembu Kudineer in the management of dengue.
f) Publications and seminars: During last four years, the Council has published 160 articles in various national and international journals. The Council also conducted 9 workshops /training programmes for professionals from Siddha system. Further four national level seminars were organised.
g) Patents: The Council has filed five patents during last four years.[/expander_maker]
(J) CCRAS
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The details of the achievements of the Council are as under:
a) Health care facilities: During last four years, a total of 2 7,95,122 visits of patients in the OPD were recorded. Further, 15,447 patients were treated in the IPD. In addition to above, the Council was also engaged in outreach activities, viz., Tribal Health Care Research Programme; Ayurveda Mobile Health Care Programme; Swasthya Rakshan Programme and Ayurvedic Health Centre in North Eastern States. Under these programmes, total number of visits of patients were recorded as 35,74,814. Medicines to the tune of Rs.15.04 crore were utilised for the purpose.
b) Research Projects: The CCRAS completed 31 projects. The projects led to filing of patents, commercialisation of drugs, publication of papers etc.
c) Development of new drugs and conimercialisation: CCRAS has developed new drugs for different disease conditions. These are AYUSH Manas for Mental retardation/cognitive deficit, AYUSH QOL for improving quality of life of Cancer patients, AYUSH Rasayan A & B in geriatric health, AYUSH Cl Oil for wound healing, AYUSH PJ-7 for Dengue fever, AYUSH M-3 for Migraine, AYUSH SL for Filariasis, AYUSH A for Bronchial Asthma, AYUSH D for Type II Diabetes Miletus, Carctol S for Cancer, AYUSH Ki for Chronic Kidney Diseases, Ayurveda drug for Non-Alcoholic fatty liver disease and Ayurve drug as adjuvant to ATT for hepatoprotection. These formulations are at different phases Of drug development.
d) Commercialisation of drugs: Further CCRAS has commercialized already developed products namely Ayush-82 for Type -II Diabetes and Ayush SG for Rheumatoid arthritis through NRDC in last two years and now these formulations are already available in the market for general public which are cost effective and the people are using these formulations for diabetes and Rheumatoid arthritis. The Council has also commercialised AYUSH 64.
e) Patent: The Council has filed two patents during last four years.
f) Validation of drugs: During last 4 years (2014-15 to 2017-18), approximately 54 Ayurveclic formulations have been validated for 15 disease conditions viz., Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis knee, Arsha (Haemorrhoids), Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), Gout (Vatarakta), Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (Madhumeha), Kitibha (Psoriasis), Manasa Mandata (Mental Retardation), Stable Chronic Bronchitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Cognitive Deficit, Manodwega (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), Osteopenia / Osteoporosis, Iron Deficiency Anaemia and Bronchial Asthma (TamakaSwasa).
g) Publications: A total of 50 books, monographs, project reports were published. In addition to this, 18 Journals/periodicals were published during last four years.
h) AYUSH Research Portal: CCRAS is maintaining a portal with the objective to disseminate knowledge of AYUSH systems and update the current research for academic purposes. The research abstracts and articles from consented journals of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy systems of medicine are collected and presented in a systematic way by classifying them into (1) Clinical Research, (2) Pre-Cliriical Research, (3) Drug Research and (4) Fundamental Research. The portal is operating at the URL : http://ayushportaLnic.in. The site is frequently browsed by students, research scholars, academicians of all AYUSH streams, medical fraternity of allied disciplines and policy makers from India and all over the world. As on 03-082018, there were 53,542 visits, 2,93,625 article views, and 58,075 article downloads from the portal.
i) Conferences/Seminars and Workshops: The Council organized 06 seminars and conferences at national level. The Council also conducted 22 workshops / training programmes during last four years.[/expander_maker]
EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
A. National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”](a) Footfalls of patients in OPD and IPD and expenditure on. medicines: During last four years, the Institute has received footfalls of 9,79,972 patients in OPD. Further 2,90,420 patients were benefited from the IPD facilities. In addition to this, a total of 237 camps were organized under Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe SubPlan and 2,18,146 patients were treated. A total expenditure of Rs.5.73 crore was incurred In procurement of Ayurvedic medicines for the patients.
(b) Drug Development : Three drugs namely Gojihvadi Syrup, Balachaturbadhra Syrup and Ojaswini Syrup have been developed and prepared by NIA for the benefit of children.
(c) Publications: A total of 862 papers (national : 269 and international : 593) were published in both national and international journals during the period 2014-2018. Further a total of 119 books have been published during the last four years.
(d) Patents: The faculty at NIA have filed applications for six patents.
(e) Conference/Seminar: The NIA organized 9 national level semmars/conferences and 1 international level seminar/conference.
(f) Passing out of students: The number of students who passed out from the Institute in UG, PG and Ph.D programmes are 222, 292 and 58 respectively during the last four years. The percentage of women in UG, PG and Ph. D progammes was 64.4 1%, 49.3 1% and 58.62% respectively.
(g) Revenue generation: During the last four years, the total revenue generated by the Institute was to the tune of Rs.11.70 crore.[/expander_maker]
B. National Institute of Siddha, Chennai
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”](a) Footfalls of patients in OPD and IPD and expenditure on medicines: During last four years, the Institute has received footfalls of 25.13 lac patients in OPD. Further 2,02,932 patients were benefited from the IPD facilities. A total expenditure of Rs.26.63 crore was incurred in procurement of Sidclha medicines for the patients.
(b) Exceptional results in certain Treatment: The Institute has shown exceptionally good results in Psoriasis treatment, chronic would healing, ligament tear treatment, dengue fever and lichen planus. The Institute has also reported that 15 women who were not able to conceive underwent treatment from their Sool, Magalir Maruthuvam OPD and ultimately could conceive with regular Siddha treatment.[/expander_maker]
C. National Institute of Unani Medicine. Bengaluru
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”](a) Footfalls of patients in OPD and IPD and expenditure on medicmes: During last four years, the Institute has received footfalls of 3,59,544 patients in OPD. Further 1,24,812patients were benefited from the IPD facilities.
(b) Revenue generation: During last four years, the total revenue generated by the Institute was to the tune of Rs.1.03 crore.
(c) International Conference and CME programmes: One international conference and four Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes were organized by the Institute.[/expander_maker]
D. All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA,New Delhi)

Further 1,397 patients were benefited from the IPD facilities. During the period, medicines amounting to Rs.3.39 crore were utiied for the benefit of general public.
(b) Revenue generation: During last three years, the total revenue generated by the Institute was to the tune of Rs.69 lakh.[/expander_maker]
E. Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga. New Delhi
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”](a) More than 8250 trainees/practitioners are registered on an average in a year for Yoga sessions. Each such Yoga session lasts for approximately 30-3 5 days resulting in more than 2.5 lakh trainee-practitioner/days per annum.
(b) The Institute established 4 Yoga Therapy & Research Centres in Govt./Tertiary Hospitals. In these Hospitals Yoga therapy benefits are being availed of by about 12500 patients/days per annum.
(c) MDNIY established 20 Preventive Healthcare Units in CGHS Weilness Centres in Delhi and NCR where about 1.00 lakh patients are getting benefits every year.
(d) Established 5 Advanced Research Centres for Yoga in Premier Medical Institutes.
(e) MDNIY conducts Certificate Course in Yoga Sciences for Wellness (for CAPF personnel) of 4 months duration. Total 19 batches have been conducted and 1254 participants have passed out the course during 2015-2018.
(f) An average of 3-4 lakh people are being benefited every year through various Yoga programmes & activities of the Institute.[/expander_maker]
F. Institute for Post Graduate Teaching and Research in Ayurveda
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]Footfalls of patients in OPD and IPD and expenditure on medicines : During last four years, the Institute received footfalls of 11,09,828 patients in OPD. Further 23,627 patients were benefited from the IPD facilities. Besides this, 7 satellite OPDs were run by the Institute during the period from 2014-15 to 2017-18 from which 22,336 patients were benefited. In addition, Diagnostic Medical Camps were arranged in rural/urban areas by the Institute and the total number of beneficiaries from such camps were 19,244. NATIONAL MEDICINAL PLANTS BOARD
Medicinal Plants are the major resource base for AYUSH drugs in the country. To ensure availability and regular supply of raw material of medicinal plants for AYUSH drugs, the National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) under its “Central Sector Scheme on Conservation, Development and Sustainable Management of Medicinal Plants” is augmenting the medicinal plants resources in the wild and also promoting their large scale cultivation in farmers’ field under Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission (NAM). The major achievements of NMPB are as under:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]a) 365 days National Campaign on Medicinal Plants is being implemented by State Medicinal Plants Boards (SMPB).
b) Guidelines for establishment of Raw Drug Repositories prepared.
c) Launched an online platform for submission of schedule TA form for all the Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani (ASU) manufacturers.
d) NMPB in collaboration with National Remote Sensing Centre, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) developed e-Bhuvan herbs mobile app. for geo-tagging and monitoring of the organizations funded by NMPB for carrying out various activities related to medicinal plants. This application was launched by Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) on 9th April, 2018.
e) National Medicinal Plants Board (NMPB) has initiated a virtual B2B marketing and knowledge sharing mobile application named “e-charak” in collaboration with C-DAC to develop the trade linkage between producers & consumers of the medicinal Plants.
f) Revised Voluntary Certification Scheme launched.
g) Five Regional-dum-Facilitatlon Centers (RCFCs) of NMPB were established for different regions.
h) Covered total area of 24882.85 ha. of land under Conservation of Medicinal Plants.
i) Established 49 Medicinal Plants Conservation and Development Areas (MPCDAs).
j) Supported livelihood through 660 Joint Forest Management Committees (JFMCs).
k) Supported 85 projects on Research & Development of Medicinal Plants.
1) Established 475 Herbal Gardens, School Herbal Gardens and Home Herbal Gardens.
m) Supported 80 projects under JEC / Training/ seminar with respect to development of medicinal plants sector.
n) NMPB has finalized the guidelines for voluntary certification of raw material for Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and Good Field Collection Practises (GFCP) with the Quality Council of India (QCI) to ensure the quality raw material supply to the industry and also to increase the income of farmers.
0) NMPB has also initiated a process for the development of a National Raw Drug Repository and eight region based Regional Raw Drug Repositories (RRDR) in respect of raw drugs being used in the ASU & H systems of medicine.
p) NMPB in collaboration with Federation on Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Stakeholders (FEDMAPS) is in process to develop a National Policy on Medicinal Plants so that all rules and regulations can be unified and brought under one code to promote the medicinal plant sector.[/expander_maker]
YOGA- A MASS MOVEMENT
Ministry of AYUSH, as the modal Ministry for celebration of International Day of Yoga (IDY) across the country, has been successfully organising the function from 2015 onwards. 35,985 people participated in the mass yoga demonstrations along with Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister on 21st June, 2015 at Rajpath, New Delhi with 84 nationalities participating in the Yoga demonstrations for which two Guinness World Records were awarded to the Ministry of AYUSH. On 21st June, 2016, 30,000 people participated in mass yoga demonstrations along with the Hon’ble Prime Minister at the Capitol Complex, Chandigarh. For the first time 150 Divyangjans performed Yoga during the 2nd International Day of Yoga celebrations.[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”] As many as 192 UN Member States have participated in the grand event. Two days International Conference on Yoga for ‘Body and Beyond’ was organized on 21st and 22nd June, 2016 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi wherein more than 1000 Yoga experts, dignitaries and delegates from India and abroad participated. 2,64,68,479 people within the country and 34,306 people in various foreign countries participated in the International Day of Yoga Celebrations in 2017.
The Ministry of AYUSH is committed to the development of Indian Systems of Medicine including Yoga. The Ministry is in the process of establishing two Post Graduate Institute for Yoga & Naturopathy in Karnataka and Haryana. It is also decided to establish Central Research Institutes of Yoga & Naturopathy in Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Rajasthan. One Central Research Institute at Rohini, Delhi has already started functioning.
Ministry of AYUSH has set up Yoga & Naturopathy Board for the Promotion & Development of Yoga & Naturopathy.
Prime Minister’s Yoga Awards
One of the highlights of IDY observation is the announcement of the Prime Minister’s Yoga Awards. The awards are being given away each year for exemplary contribution in the field of Yoga towards the development and promotion of Yoga. In 2018 the Awards have been conferred on one individual and one institution, as follows:
(i) Sh. Vishwas Vasant Mandalik, Nasik (National – Individual category)
(ii) The Yoga Institute, Mumbai (National – Institution category)
Yoga Ambassadors’ Tour:
The Yoga Ambassadors Tour, organized in collaboration with Kerala Tourism Department, was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of State (IC) for AYUSH, Govt. of India in the presence of Kerala Tourism Minister and other dignitaries at Thiruvananthapuram on 14th June, 2018. A total 52 participants from 22 countries joined the Yoga Tour. On 14th June, 2018 an International Conference on Yoga was also organized for the participants of the Yoga Tour. The tour culminated on 21st June, 2018 with a grand celebration of International Day of Yoga.
Other Events related to IDY
The Ministry of AYUSH, through Central Council for Research in Yoga & Naturopathy (CCRYN), organized one month free Yoga training programme in around 600 districts across the country through Govt. Organisations and NGOs ahead of IDY. It also organized a total of 11 one-day workshop on Yoga for Women in the 40+ age group in association with Indian Menopause Society in different parts of the country.
As reported, International Naturopathy Organisation (INO) trained more than. 51 lakh people in Yoga during the IDY-2018. Several State Governments like Punjab, Haryana, UP etc. have extensively trained the people on this occasion in large numbers.
Two mobile technology based applications deployed by the Ministry, namely BHUVANYOGA (developed by ISRO) and Yoga Locator contributed to the public mobilization for IDY-2018. The former helped to assess the magnitude of participation at different venues and the latter helped the public to locate the events near them.[/expander_maker]
OTHER NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS
A. QUALITY ASSURANCE:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”](1) The Ministry has made considerable investments through NAM to enhance/improve the quality of Drugs.
(ii) There has been a 10-fold increase in the number of state pharmacies to ensure supply of quality AYUSH medicines to people.
(iii) The number of State Drug Testing Laboratories saw a 13.5 fold increase as they were provided Grant-rn-aid to ensure supply of quality AYUSH medicines to people.
(iv) Upgradation of drug testing laboratories has been supported under NAM in most of the States. In addition, 55 Drug Testing Laboratories have been approved for the purpose of quality assurance.[/expander_maker]
B. SKILL INDIA:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The Government has stressed the need to enhance the skill competency of the Indian manpower. The Ministry of AYUSH through some of the initiatives has .attempted to contribute to the national cause. The details are as under:
a. Skill competency is one of the pre-requisites for standardisation. The Ministry of AVUSH has made it obligatory for AYUSH hospitals for their accreditation to NAEH standards with a view to enhancing the quality and safety aspects. Till date a total of 42 AYUSH hospitals have got the NABH accreditation.
b. The Ministry of AYTJSH has developed Accreditation Standards for Certificate Course for Panchakarma Assistant through Rashtriya Ayurevda Vidyapeeth (RAV) to produce skilled manpower in Panchakarma. The Ministry also started a voluntary scheme for evaluation and certification of Yoga professionals in association with the QCI to fulfil demand of skilled Yoga Experts at National as well as International level.
c. The Ministry has taken initiative for establishment of AYUSH Health Care Super Specialty Day Care / Hospital and Skill Development under the Champion Sectors in Services led by the Department of Commerce, as approved by the Union Cabinet, to give focussed attention to identified Champion Service Sectors for promoting their development and realizing their potential. The proposal has been approved in principle.
d. One year regular course of Treatment Assistant Training (TATC) is being conducted by CCRYN, New Delhi and NIN, Pune to develop skilled manpower in the field of Naturopathy, especially as Therapists who can work under the supervision of qualified Naturopaths. This course comprises all the required theory and practical subjects for the study of a Naturopath Therapist.[/expander_maker]
C. DIGITAL INDIA:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”](i) As a part of Digital India campaign the National AYUSH Morbidity and Standardized Terminologies Portal (NAMSTP) was developed by the Ministry of AYUSH and it was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India on 17.10.2017. The portal provides information about Standardized Terminologies and Morbidity Codes along with dedicated data entry module for updating morbidity statistics in consolidated form as well as on real’ time basis.
(ii) Ministry is also developing a cloud based AYUSH GRID under the digital India Mission of Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. All the AYUSH Teaching Institutes, Hospitals and industry will be linked to AYUSH Grid.
(iii) A new course on IT education was launched for AYUSH professionals in collaboration with C-DAC.
(iv) Ministry of AYUSH has registered a remarkable presence on social media. AYUSH systems have been promoted on Ministry’s various Social Media Platforms i.e. Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Twitter and also at My Gov Platform to benefit the various strata of population about the AYUSH systems through following activities:
a. Creatives on Ayurveda Herbs Spices such as ADRAK, TULSI, DALCHINI, AJWAIN etc.
b. Vibrant Yoga Portal for dissemination of information related to Yoga i.e. http:// yoga.ayush.gov.in/.
c. Creative on Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) Asanas.
d. Creative information to the people on how to protect themselves from Dengue and Chikungunya fever through AYUSH Systems.
e. 100 Days campaign for International Day of Yoga.
f. Specific blog for Diabetes management at https: / /antidiabetesayush.wordpress.com/ to create awareness about methods to control & manage diabetes through AYUSH System.
g. Online contests to create awareness about the health benefits of AYUSH Systems.
h. The Ministry of AYUSH was on the top spot of Broadcast Audience Research Council’s (BARC) BARC Ranking top 10 brands during the week 25 (June 16-22, 2018) with 14, 731 insertions.
vi. NMPB has collaborated with National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to implement space based tools in monitoring & strategic decision making in the field of Medicinal Plants.

D. JOB CREATION AND FURTHER EFFORTS MADE FOR GENERATING EMPLOYMENT:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]The new efforts undertaken by the Ministry have resulted in generation of employment at various levels. More than 2500 permanent and contractual posts are filled. The details are as under:
(i) In CCRAS, around 150 posts of Research Officers were revived and filled up during last two years. NIS, Chennai has also filled up 71 additional posts during this period.
(ii) Under NAM, Ministry of AYUSH has accorded approval for appointment to 1008 posts for 184 units of State AYUSH hospitals and 205 posts for 6 units of 50 bedded new integrated hospitals.
(iii) Under the scheme of Centre of Excellence, there is a component of human resource management under which the manpower to carry out the activities are paid emoluments from the total grants-in -aid. It is reported that 289 additional jobs have been created under the scheme.
(iv) Under the NPCDCS, the three Councils, namely, CCRAS, CCRUM and CCR}1 have provided 772 additional posts which have been filled up on contractual basis.
(v) Under Swasthya Rakshan Programme, CCRH and CCRUM have provided 129 additional posts which have been filled up on contractual basis.
(vi) Under Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), the backlog in vacancy has been removed and 63 posts of AYUSH doctors have been filled up in the last four years.
In addition to above, the Ministry1s action in the direction of furtherance of the cause of AYUSH services in other sectors will also help in generating employment for AYUSH personnel. These actions are as below:
(i) MoIJ between Ministry of AYtJSH and Ministry of Railways, Govt. of India was signed for establishment of AYUSH wings at 05 Railway Hospitals. It will open the door of job opportunity to AYUSH graduates in Ministry of Railways. The Ministry of AYUSH also entered into MoU with Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Boston, USA and Harvard Medical School, USA.
(ii) Ministry of AYUSH also signed MoU with Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to develop entrepreneurship in AYUSH.[/expander_maker]
E. “AYUSH” FINDS A PLACE IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]In pursuance of the proposal of the Ministry of AYUSH the Commission for Scientific and Technical Terminology has decided to adopt the word “AYUSH” in Hindi and English languages for scientific and technical purposes. As approved by the Commission, the word “AYUSH” will have the meaning “Traditional and Non-Conventional Systems of Health Care and Healing which include Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, Homoeopathy etc.” Following the Commission’s recognition, the word “AYUSH” is expected to gain currency in popular usage in a short span of time.[/expander_maker]
F. INDIAN MEDICINES PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY LIMITED (IMPCL):
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]IMPCL, the public sector undertaking under Ministry of AYTJSH, has improved its functioning lately so much so that its turnover has increased significantly during last two years. After a turnover of Rs. 34 crore during 2015-16, the company has recorded a sale of Rs. 66.5 crore and Rs.96 crore during 2016-17 and 20 17-18 respectively.[/expander_maker]
G. GENDER EMPOWERMENT AND EQUALITY:
[expander_maker id=”3″ more=”Read more” less=”Read less”]Ministry of AYUSH ensures that there is no discrimination against female researchers, scholars and teachers. It also ensures that government instructions related to employees are complied with. The institutes under Ministry of AYUSH have shown extraordinary representation of women, both at the levels of teachers and scholars. There are 10 National level institutions engaged in educational activities under the Ministry of AYUSH.
The data received from these institutions provide a very bright picture as far as education of women is concerned. A summary of participation is as under:
(i) NIS, Chennai has reported that out of 46 PG students during 2017-18, 38 (83%) are females. Further, out of 26 faculty members, 09 are females. All these 8 female faculty have been encouraged to register themselves for Ph. D programms.
(ii) MDNW, New Delhi has reported that out of 21 faculty members, 09 are women.
(iii) AIIA, New Delhi has reported that there are 84 female MD scholars at present which is approximately 75% of the total MD students.
(iv) IPGTRA, Jamnagar has reported that there are a total of 11 females as faculty members and 111 female scholars are involved in the field of medical research.
(v) The number of female scholars in NIH, Kolkata is also more than 50%. During 2017-18, out of 35 MD students, 22 are female.
(vi) At NIUM, Bangalore, 53.1% MD students are women while 27.7 % faculty members are women.
(vii) Three Institutes, i.e, AIIA, New Delhi, NIN, Pune and NIS, Chennai are headed by women.
In addition to above, the Research Councils have also reported good participation of women scholars in their institutes. From the figures received from Research Councils, the number of female researchers is more than 50% of the total researchers. There is almost equal participation of female scientists in international conferences.[/expander_maker]
